Vynova Mazingarbe becomes the first PVC production site in the world to receive OCS certification

The Vynova site in Mazingarbe (France) is the first PVC manufacturing site worldwide to successfully pass certification under the OCS Europe Certification Scheme. The certification proves compliance with a set of measures to prevent the loss of plastic powder and pellets to the environment, implemented in the framework of the international Operation Clean Sweep® (OCS) programme.

Vynova_Operation_Clean_SweepOperation Clean Sweep® is a voluntary initiative of the plastics value chain to prevent the loss of plastic pellets and powder to the environment that can occur during production, handling, transport and conversion. The OCS Europe certificate demonstrates that Vynova’s PVC production plant in Mazingarbe complies with the requirements of the OCS programme to protect the environment. These include for example the implementation of procedures, tools and employee training to prevent, contain, clean up and dispose of PVC powder spills, as well as regular audits and communication campaigns.

For Vynova, the OCS certification is a key recognition of its efforts to prevent spilled PVC powder from ending up in the environment. To realize this goal, the Mazingarbe site has carried out multiple investments in its facilities and puts great emphasis on involving its employees, contractors and transport providers to prevent PVC loss or spillage and to propose improvements for the future. Plastic waste management is one of the main targets that the Vynova PVC production sites address through their environmental management systems certified under the ISO 14001 standard.

“Protecting the environment is very important for Vynova. We have been a signatory to the Operation Clean Sweep® pledge since 2016 and the OCS certification of Vynova Mazingarbe shows us that we are on the right track to realize our goal of minimizing PVC powder loss to the environment,” comments Mazingarbe Site Manager and Vynova OCS Coordinator Pascal Monbailly.

The OCS certificate was awarded following an external audit by the specialized certification body LNE (Laboratoire national de métrologie et d'essais). “We congratulate Vynova Mazingarbe on achieving certification and taking the lead in preventing PVC powder loss to the environment. The OCS programme and certification are key initiatives to protect our environment and promote sustainable and responsible business practices in the entire plastics value chain,” comments LNE Certification Manager Pascal Prudhon.

Vynova’s other PVC production sites, in Wilhelmshaven (Germany) and Beek (The Netherlands), will go through the OCS Europe certification process by 2024.
