Hydrochloric acid synthetic (HCl) is a colourless, aqueous solution produced by combining hydrogen and chlorine, both of which are formed during our on-site electrolysis process. As the ensuing reaction is exothermic, the installation used is called an HCl oven or HCl burner.
The resulting hydrogen chloride gas is absorbed in deionized water, resulting in chemically pure HCl. Because of its high purity, our hydrochloric acid can be used in the food and pharmaceuticals industries as well as for other applications requiring high purity HCl. HCl plays an important role in the manufacture of a wide range of consumer products. Because hydrochloric acid is a reactive liquid, it serves in the production of water treatment chemicals, batteries and feed phosphates. Other applications include its use for metal surface treatments, removing scale and rust from steel during the steel pickling process.
HCl’s ability to adjust the pH level of substances makes it useful as a food additive. The compound is also used to break down enzymes in the processing of corn syrups and hydrolysed vegetable oils, and as an acidifier in food products such as soy sauce.
