ABOUT LÜLSDORF FUNCTIONAL SOLUTIONS

Lülsdorf Functional Solutions GmbH, an affiliated site that is part of our parent company ICIG, is located in Niederkassel, in the western part of Germany, near Cologne. The site is accessible by road and rail and is located close to the Rhine river.


The Lülsdorf site features production installations for liquid and solid potassium carbonate (K2CO3) and potassium hydrogen carbonate (KHCO3).


Potassium carbonate and potassium hydrogen carbonate are used in a variety of different markets such as agrochemicals, food and feed, pharmaceuticals, consumer care and industrial applications.

The history of the Lülsdorf site dates back more than 100 years. Since the foundation of the site in 1913 by Hugo Stinnes and Dr. Meyer Wildermann, the Lülsdorf site has grown to an important employer in the region with around 500 employees. The company is acquired by International Chemical Investors Group (ICIG). The potassium derivatives sales and marketing activities of Lülsdorf Functional Solutions GmbH are brought under the Vynova umbrella.

2012

Establishment of a new potash powder plant; Capacity expansion of potassium hydrogen carbonate production.

2009

Closure of the CSD facility.

2007

Founding of Evonik Industries AG; the Lülsdorf plant is part of Evonik-Degussa GmbH.

2001

Merger of Degussa-Hüls with SKW-Trostberg to form Degussa. AG; Spin-off of the DMT business.

1999

Degussa-Hüls GmbH is founded; Commissioning of the CSD system.

1995

Closure of the electric melting plant.

1989

The Lülsdorf site becomes part of Hüls AG, Marl.

1968-1972

Construction of the DMT plant.

1964

Commissioning of the EDC plant.

1962

Incorporation of the plant into Dynamit Nobel AG (from 1967 Dynamit Nobel AG, Lülsdorf plant).

1950

Construction of a new potash plant.

1930

Feldmühle AG acquires KOHOLYT AG.

1926

KOHOLYT AG is acquired by British company INVERESK-PAPER LTD.

1925

Takeover of corundum production from Knapsack.

1922

First plants to produce potassium carbonate and potassium hydrogen carbonate.

1920

Affiliation of the site to the newly founded KOHOLYT-AG as Elektrochemische Fabrik Lülsdorf.

1913

Foundation of the site and start of construction by Deutsche Wildermannwerke; Construction of electrolysis plant.
